New Music

February 23, 2010

The avalanche of exciting new music news doesn’t look like abating anytime soon, with three of my favourite acts, Trentemoller, Booka Shade and Unkle all preparing new albums for release.

Booka Shade’s ‘More!’ will be out on May 3rd, and you can download a free single ‘Regenerate’ here,  while Unkle’s ‘Where Did the Night Fall’ is out on May 10th, with a free single ‘Natural Selection’ available here. Trentemoller’s hotly anticipated second album, ‘Into the Great Wide Yonder’, will also be out in May, but you’ll have to wait until April for the first single; ‘Sycamore Feeling’.

Another long-awaited sophmore record comes from the Sunshine Underground; ‘Nobody’s Coming to Save You’ is a far more accomplished piece of work, although maybe not quite as fresh and powerful as ‘Raise the Alarm. Still, I got to go see them last week, and if you get the chance then I would highly recommend you do the same.

Staying with guitars, The Rapture’s new album will be ready by June or July – according to front-man Gabe Andruzzi – who also proclaimed to Pitchfork, “Our new album’s gonna be fucking 100 times better than the iPad, with this record you’re going to be interfacing with your soul in ways that have never happened before.”

In other music news, I can confirm that the new Groove Armada album, Black Light’, is a return to form, full of 80s sounding goodness like first single ‘I Won’t Kneel’; read my review if you like. A couple of other fine songs with a lovely retro vibe are Tensnake‘s decedant disco-house anthem ‘Coma Cat’ and the better half of Friendly Fires/Holy Ghost’s new combo release; the DFA-tastic Holy Ghost! cover of ‘Hold On’.

And finally, to celebrate the release of Alex Smoke’s new album, Lux, I had a chat with him; which Data Transmission were nice enough to put on their website.
